Democracy at a Crossroads

10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The United States is at a pivotal moment in its history. At the dawn of a new political order in Washington and for the nation, many issues loom large in our democracy, including issues as wide ranging as voting rights, electoral reform, racial bias, and reform of the criminal justice system. These are all areas ripe for further introspection. What does all of this mean for the future of our democracy? Please join a panel of renowned and national experts who will examine these issues and discuss the role that the legal community has in advancing an inclusive, fair, and effective agenda for all.

Panelist:

  • Nicole Austin-Hillery, Director and Counsel, Washington Office, the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law, moderator
  • Julie Fernandes, Advocacy Director for Voting Rights and Democracy, Open Society Foundations
  • Edward Hailes, Jr., General Counsel and Managing Director, The Advancement Project
  • Kristen Clarke, President and Executive Director, The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law
